Comparison between a petrol and diesel engines

Comparison between a petrol and diesel engines

In this article let us discuss about difference between Petrol Vs Diesel engine. The below image gives the comparison.

The petrol and diesel engines are far difference when we compare them with each other.

            Petrol Engine VS Diesel Engine

Petrol Engine :
  1. During suction air-petrol is sucked into engine cylinder during suction stroke.
  2. Occupies less space.
  3. Light weight.
  4. Pre-Ignition is possible.
  5. Works on Otto cycle.
  6. Petrol being volatile is dangerous.
  7. Spark plug is used.
  8. Running cost is more.
  9. Power produced by spark ignition.
  10. Thermal efficiency is about 26%.
  11. Compression ratio is 10;1 to 13.5;1.
  12. Less power output.
  13. Starting of engine is easy due to low compression ratio.
  14. High speed engine.
  15. Low initial cost.
  16. Frequently maintenance is required.
  17. It is also known as SI engine.
  18. Low engine vibrations and noise.
  19. Fuel consumption is more.
  20. Produces more CO2.
  21. Less efficient.
  22. Less Smoke.  ETC.....,
Diesel engine :
  1. During suction air is sucked into engine.
  2. Occupies more space.
  3. More weight.
  4. Pre-Ignition is not possible.
  5. Works on diesel cycle.
  6. Diesel is non dangerous as it is non volatile.
  7. Fuel injector is used.
  8. Running cost is less.
  9. Power produced by Compression ignition.
  10. Thermal efficiency is about 40%.
  11. Compression ratio is 14;1 to 22;1.
  12. More power input.
  13. Starting of engine is difficult due to higher compression ratio.
  14. Low speed engine.
  15. High initial cost.
  16. Frequently less maintenance is required.
  17. It is also known as CI engine.
  18. More engine vibrations and noise.
  19. Fuel consumption is less.
  20. Produces less CO2.
  21. More Efficient.
  22. More Smoke. ETC....,

This the comparison b/w Petrol and Diesel engine.
