10 Strategies in Automation easy explanation || Automation In Manufacturing

                                     Strategies in Automation

Normally there are 10 Strategies in automation or Automation in manufacturing there are as follows :

  1. Specialization of operations
  2. Combined operations
  3. Simultaneous operations
  4. Integration of operations
  5. Increased flexibility
  6. Improved material handling and storage
  7. On-Line inspection
  8. Process control and optimization
  9. Plant operations control
  10. Computer integrated manufacturing
Let us discuss each and every Strategy in detail.

1. Specialization Of Operations :

In this Strategy we are going to use the special purpose equipment designed to perform one operation with greatest possible efficiency. It is employed to improve labour productivity. Labour productivity means total volume of output produced per unit of labour during a given time reference period.

Ex: Drilling machine is the special purpose equipment used for drill a hole in an greatest possible efficiency. Therefore the productivity increases means holes produced in a particular time period increases.

2. Combined Operations :

In this Strategy we are going to perform more than one operation at a given machine, therefore reducing the number of separate machines needed.

➤  Setup time usually saved.
➤  Material handling and Non-operation time are also reduced.

Ex: Example like performing drilling and boring on one machine one after one . In this example these two operations are not performed on same time.

3. Simultaneous Operations :

This Strategy is somewhat extension to Combined Operations. we are going to perform more than one operation at the same time.

➤ It reduce total processing time.

Ex: If a work part contain a hole and it need boring as well another hole therefore these two operations are performed simultaneously means at the same time.

4. Integration of operations :

In this Strategy we are going to link several workstations together into a single integrated mechanism by using automated work handing devices to transfer parts between them. By using this the number of separate machines required is reduced.

Ex:

The above example is the best example for automated work handling device.

5. Increased Flexibility :

In this Strategy we are going to use the same equipment to produce variety of parts (or) products. Like in Flexible operations.

➤  It reduce setup time and programming time.
➤  Lower manufacturing lead times (Time required to manufacture a product) and work in process (Companies partially finished goods waiting for completion and eventual sale )

Ex: Lathe Machine

We can use the Lathe machine as a best example because  according to definition of this Strategy. we can use lathe for different operations like Drilling, Turning, Knurling ETC....,

6. Improved material handling and storage :

In this Strategy we are going to Automate the material handling (Movement and protection , Storage and control of materials and products through out the manufacturing ) and storage.

Ex:

We use some work handling devices to transport the products for storage and for raw materials for manufacturing.

7. On-Line Inspection :

In this Strategy we are going to inspect the product while it is being manufactured. Due to inspection is done during operation scrap reduces.

➤ It is also known as In-Line (or) In-Process inspection.
➤ Reduces scrap.

8. Process control and Optimization :

In this Strategy we are going to use wide range of control systems to operate the individual process and associated equipment more efficiently.

➤ Individual process time can be reduced.
➤ Improved product quality.
➤ It concerns the only individual manufacturing process.

Ex:  CNC Machines

CNC Machine is uses several sensors for individual process these sensors.

9. Plant Operations :

In this Strategy we are going to implement a high level computer networking with in factory. It means automating the whole factory.

➤ While the above Strategy involves only an individual process this Strategy concerns whole plant.

10. Computer Integrated Manufacturing :

This Strategy involves uses of computers for entire production process in manufacturing.

➤ Computer applications.
➤ Computer Data bases.
➤ Computer networking thought out the enterprise.

Ex:

                                                        THE END👍💬
